UniLodz: the only Polish signatory to the joint statement on expert participation in UN cybersecurity proceedings

Over 30 organisations and experts from around the world co-signed a joint statement calling for transparency in this process. Centre for Research on International Law in Cyberspace, Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Łódź was the only Polish signatory.

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs publicly supported the participation of Lodz Cyber Hub in the Global Mechanism proceedings. Joanna Pawełek, Counsellor-Minister for International Affairs at the MFA, commenting on the session, highlighted the growing role of Global South states in UN negotiations and raised the question of how Poland should pursue its priorities within this shifting landscape.

The New York session coincided with the Summer School on Internet Governance and International Law (SSIGIL 2026, 20–25 July), organised by the Lodz Cyber Hub and dedicated to precisely this question: how to include the voices of practitioners and researchers in international cybersecurity decision-making.

How the Global Mechanism resolves the question of expert participation in its first year of operation will set the standard for the next five.
