Dr. Joanna Kulesza presented a talk focusing on the similarities in the application of international law in cyberspace and outer space. Among the speakers were Aarti Holla-Maini, Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), Prof. Adam Amara from the UK Space Agency and the University of Surrey, Colin Baldwin, Executive Director of UKspace, Prof. Emma Edhem, Chair of the Open UK Space Advisory Board, and Joanne Wheeler MBE from Alden Legal and the Earth∞Space Sustainability Initiative.
The workshop addressed threats arising from the growing amount of space debris, atmospheric pollution caused by rocket launches, and the exploitation of space resources such as asteroid mining. We also had the unique opportunity to tour the centre and learn about its latest projects. Discussions emphasized the need for international cooperation and regulation to protect the Earth-space ecosystem—vital for life on our planet.
