UniLodz at IGF 2025 – Partnering with Poland’s Digital and Foreign Ministries!

The Lodz Cyber Hub research centre once again took an active part in the United Nations Internet Governance Forum, this time in Lillestrøm, Norway. LCH contributed to key IGF 2025 discussions on digital sovereignty, governance of critical infrastructure, and the application of international law in cyberspace.

The 20th Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2025) was held under the theme “Building digital governance together” — and Łódź had a seat at the table. Lodz Cyber Hub co-organised three sessions at IGF 2025, in cooperation with GigaNet, the European University Institute, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Digital Affairs.

Joanna Kulesza spoke alongside Jonathan Liebenau (LSE), in a session moderated by Jamal Shahin (UNU-CRIS / GigaNet). The panel presented recommendations for participants of the WSIS+20 Summit in Geneva, based on the SSIGIL final document “From Łódź to Geneva: On the Future of Satellite Internet.”

Open Forum #68 — WSIS+20 Review and the Sustainable Development Goals: a global dialogue

Lodz Cyber Hub Director participated in a session organised by the European Commission and the European University Institute, together with Kurtis Lindqvist (CEO, ICANN), Thibault Kleiner (DG CONNECT, European Commission), and Sook-Jung Dofel (GIZ / IGF MAG).

Open Forum #10 — Multistakeholder Internet Governance and International Law in Cyberspace

Session organised in cooperation with the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, and the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, with the participation of Elena Plexida (ICANN) and Helen Popp (EEAS).

SSIGIL Final Document

All three sessions referred to the document “From Łódź to Geneva: On the Future of Satellite Internet,” developed by 14 researchers and practitioners from around the world during the Summer School on Internet Governance and International Law (SSIGIL) in Łódź. The document highlights access to the Internet as a human right, the key role of satellite infrastructure in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and the need for coherent legal frameworks for digital sovereignty.
