He is a professor of biological sciences (specialising in entomology) and lecturer at the University of Lodz. He was a Member of the Sejm of the first, third, sixth, seventh and eighth terms (1989-1993, 1997-2001, 2007-2019), senator of the sixth term from 2005 to 2007, Vice-Marshal of the Sejm of the sixth term. He was a President of the National Defence Committee and a President of the Polish-Taiwanese Parliamentary Group.
